Meet John Vincent Garcia, owner of G’s Delish Kitchen x Project, which – after just a week – only got ROI. “Take a leap and just do it! It’s better to have reached for the stars and fell into the trees rather than just continue staring at the stars doing nothing.”
John Vincent Garcia established G’s Delish Kitchen x Project this June, with a start-up capital of only PhP10,000.00.
“Me and my wife were both put on LWOP (by the airline they used to worked for) due to the Covid-19 outbreak,” he said, and so they had to “find a way to stay afloat due to our lack of steady income.”
They saw videos on YouTube about baked maki “and it really caught our attention being sushi lovers ourselves.”
And so they decided to give it a try and make one, and we enjoyed it thoroughly.”
It helps that John Vincent’s wife “is very creative in the kitchen and can come up with new and exciting dishes with whatever is available to her at the time.”
Inspired by the other online sellers who just recently got into this line of work during the quarantine period (“I salute their creativity and foresight to provide buyers new and exciting dishes we are all enjoying now as most of us stay safe at home instead of going out”), G’s Delish Kitchen x Project came into being.
The business is a success, getting ROI just after a week.
It can get competitive, but “as long as you ensure that your products always stand out from the multitudes of other baked maki trays being sold online,” John Vincent said.
What have been challenges for the couple?
“It’s a challenge to always staying on top of everything since this is a small kitchen project me and my wife are running,” he said. “There’s also the welcome challenge of other baked maki sellers, so you always have to step up your game and constantly improve on your product as online food business is really competitive.”
But this is a career path John Vincent said he knew they’d go into.
“I always had an interest in sales and marketing and had a few stints prior to my current work. I find this industry to be challenging and fulfilling at the same time,” he said.
And for people who may want to also open their business, what tips can they give?
“Take a leap and just do it! It’s better to have reached for the stars and fell into the trees rather than just continue staring at the stars doing nothing,” John Vincent said. “I have personally hesitated a lot before which I regret doing, and it constantly leaves me wondering what could have already been achieved have i started the moment I felt like starting.”
