Start today; take the risk – Ira Shayne Cruz

Sometime in June, Ira Shayne Cruz was craving for Basque Burnt Cheesecake; but she didn’t have a cake pan, “so I used my cupcake tray (to make some),” she recalled. That was a Eureka! moment for her, since “an idea came to sell bite-sized burnt cheesecake.” With P1,000, she started a business… and hasn’t looked back since then.

Sometime in June, Ira Shayne Cruz was craving for Basque Burnt Cheesecake; but she didn’t have a cake pan, “so I used my cupcake tray (to make some),” she recalled. That was a Eureka! moment for her, since “an idea came to sell bite-sized burnt cheesecake.”

That was how Ira’s Basque Burnt Cheesecake Bites came into being with a startup capital of only PhP1,000.

“Baking has always been my hobby, and as this quarantine continues, a lot of online sellers have been selling baked goodies. I once thought of selling cookies and brownies however, there were already many competitors,” she said, adding that bite-sized Basque Burnt Cheesecake is… a peculiar move.

It helps that Ira Shayne took up Culinary Arts and “spent my whole internship in the Pastry Department as I love desserts and baking as well,” she said, so that “yes, it has always been my dream to have my own food business particularly a cafe or bakeshop.”

Ira Shayne said there are challenges those interested to go into this line of biz need to be willing to face.

For instance, in her case, “I didn’t have enough baking equipment when I started. But as my business (boomed) I was able to manage to purchase the things that I need, like a new oven, etc.”

And so yes, for her, this is a profitable move. This is largely because her goods are getting loving support.

“I am really thankful for the people who continue to support and patronize my product,” Ira Shayne said.

And for people who may want to also open their business, what tips can Ira Shayne give?

“Start today. Take the risk. Do not be afraid of failure because the only way to learn is by doing,” she ended.
